Tyson Fury’s fierce talk : Knock Out

leave a comment »

BBC SPORTS PERSONALITY 2015 went to Andy Murray, as for Tyson Fury he was slated by the media and many for his outrageous and infuriating comments, however the debate over freedom of speech was brought up by many such as the media and supporters of Tyson.

A headline from the daily mail read: Tyson Fury backed over right to free speech but warned of ‘responsibilities’. Tyson Fury was investigated by the boxing commission and not punished yet reminded he is a role model and has a responsibility to the fans.

“It is very disappointing that the BBC have ignored public opinion and refused to remove Tyson Fury from the shortlist, even though his late addition came after his disgraceful and inflammatory comments about women and gay people.

John O’Doherty, director of The Rainbow Project, an LBGT support group, said about Tyson and went on to say:

“An excellent boxer Tyson Fury may be, however his extremely callous and erroneous remarks about our community make him an unworthy candidate to be recognised among the UK’s excellent sporting personalities and ambassador.”

Andy West who was suspended by the BBC where he worked as a Journalist left his post due to his views that Tyson Fury should not be on the BBC Sports Personality of the Year nominees list, he was one of many people outraged by Fury’s comments.

He posted and signed the petition in support against Tyson’s comments. Andy West said of his job at the BBC “My employer is hurting me and other gay people by celebrating someone who considers me no better than a paedophile and who believes homosexual people are helping to bring about the end of the world.”

Although Tyson fury apologised about his sexist comments and rant towards homosexuals he was not punished whilst claiming freedom of speech and that he did not want to hurt anyone.

Tyson Fury is meant to be a role model, yet his comments let him down, many people focused on the other side of the argument; that this was a hate speech, he was actually investigated by the authorities in Manchester although no further action was taken.

He was stripped of his world heavy weight title for not agreeing to fight the title contender instead choosing to fight a re-match with Klitschko who had a clause in the previous contract that if he lost he could have a re-match with Tyson Fury.

Almost 140,000 people signed a petition calling for Fury, 27, to be removed from the BBC Sports Personality of the Year shortlist after comments he made about women and gay people.

Around 40 people protested outside BBC’s SPOTY awards ceremony.

At the ceremony, the British fighter said: “If I’ve said anything in the past that’s hurt anybody, I apologise.” yet he still tried to explain his comments later that his views are shaped by his faith, but he got a hard time from BBC Radio 2’s Jeremy Vine who couldn’t make out the details in Tyson’ comments about the end of the world due to abortion, paedophilia and homosexuality.

Some of the 7,500 audience at the SSE Arena booed Fury’s name as it was read out as one of the 12 in contention for the Sports Personality award.

So neither the police or boxing authorities punished Tyson Fury. The way Tyson Fury aimed his speech at targets certainly victimised many of society, yet he has not been punished for his hate speech, was this not seen as an example of inciting hatred and abuse or even violence?

Surely the Journalist from the BBC was right to flag it up and walk out of the company; the BBC is meant to be a public service broadcaster and should take more responsibility in embracing the views of its community not just the outspoken sports celebrity who is out of sync with his views on equality and freedom to be whatever you choose to be.

Tyson’s fury has cost him, so soon after beating Wladimir Klitschko he got a knock – out by the viewers of the BBC who titled him as ‘vile’. He is a human like everyone and makes mistakes, I would hope to see a British role model like Tyson Fury do well and not make another crazy outrageous rant or continue being negative.

Tyson Fury’s comments also include talk about the devil, and how the devil is coming and how he sees homosexuality and abortion being legalised as something that shouldn’t have been done; he has also talked about women in a sexist way; whether he gets into more trouble if he continues expressing these types of views in an inciting or hateful way then he should be punished.

As for the rematch its on British TYSON FURY vs Wladimir Klitschko.

Vitali who is Wladimir’s brother said of the Ukranian Boxer that he will come back to beat Fury.

Tyson will want to cause another upset, let’s hope not of the wrong kind this time.

Holloway! Sent Away! From the touchline! Two Match Ban!

leave a comment »

Ian Holloway Crystal Palace FC Manager, has been given a two match ban for criticising the referee when Palace played Tottenham and lost 1-0 on 18th August 2013.

The criticism came from Holloway when he contested the penalty given to Tottenham, saying that Mark Clattenburg had missed the crucial foul on a Palace player in the build up to the penalty, Tottenham however did not miss from the spot and Roberto Saldado gave his team the crucial one goal lead, and that goal proved to be enough on the day.

Holloway had seen an incident, whereas the referee had missed it, coincidentally?

The Palace boss made comments after the match saying : “I had this with Blackpool. Certain clubs get fouls and others don’t.”

He also said of the referees : “It’s going to be a long, hard season for me with these people.”

This is not the first time a manager has complained of certain clubs being given fouls and other clubs not being given a fair refereeing performance.

Goal line technology has come into the equation this season and this move will be seen as making the matches fairer, although from Holloway’s comments it seems that there is still much more to be done to make things fair, and especially in the cases when there are matches between smaller clubs and the larger ones.

The FA provided a statement regarding the two match ban: “Ian Holloway will serve a two-match touchline suspension with immediate effect after Crystal Palace notified the FA that they would not be appealing the sanction.”

Not only will the Palace boss, who is just as animated as the most enthusiastic and passionate managers around, receive a two match touchline ban, he is also being fined £18,000.

Ten thousand for his language and behaviour in or around the referees dressing room and eight thousand for his post match comments to the media, which brought into question referee Clattenburg’s performance and action taken in giving the decisive Penalty to Tottenham.

This ban means that Holloway will not be on the touchline for the away match against Manchester United on 14th September, he will also be away from the touchline on the home match against Swansea on 22nd September 2013.

Ian Holloway aged 50 is known for his funny interviews and outrageous quotes in response to the media and is known as ‘Ollie’, his managerial career spans just over 16 years.

A two match ban, for any manager, will be difficult, especially as Holloway likes to direct from the touchline as much as he can and this approach is one that led Palace back to the Premiership and the players of course, Holloway said on promotion back to the top flight “It all starts now, the minute the Premier League begins we will be on a hiding to nothing but we want to stay there!”

Will Palace stay there?

The Eagles! Have Arrived! Swooping in for First 3 points!

leave a comment »

The Eagles as they’re known in South London have finally shown some prowess and swooped in for three points against Sunderland. This was Crystal Palace FC’s third premiership match up and they’ve picked up their very first points after beating Sunderland 3-1!

The Eagles will want to take this win on to be the start of a winning streak and they will be wanting to show the Premiership the same want to be within the premiership and have the ability to stay there! The next match is a big one with Manchester United. This is a big bad and ugly fixture for Palace and the eagle will have to yet again take flight after having landed their first points this season, and swoop in to Old Trafford for a win if not a draw from the fixture. Many may say that points from this fixture will be hard to come by for the Eagles but they’ve shown how they forged their way into the Premiership again and how they can this time stay there by showing the style and strength and that ability to swoop in for a hold on as many points as they can attain and the Eagles will be wanting to aim high and fly high!

Many pundits see Palace as the weaker team compared to that of the other two promoted to the Premier League, Hull City Tigers and Cardiff City, and unfortunately Palace lost both the first and second match of the season, not the best of starts, the latest of wins could be one of many and supporters will want the newly promoted team seen as underdogs to do well.

Dwight Gayle is on the goal sheet with one goal from a penalty, which came about when he was fouled by John O’shea (who received a red), he struck the ball away from the keeper and into the corner to make it 2-1 to Palace. Crystal Palace spent £6million to bring in Gayle from Peterborough and he will be relishing the role of key striker especially after scoring at home against Sunderland.

Crystal Palace's English striker Dwight

Ian Holloway former Blackpool boss and currently Crystal Palace boss said of Dwight Gayle and his second signing of Jerome Thomas, “People like Jerome and Gayle typify what Palace are all about really, with young people and hungry people.”

Wilfried Zaha is off and Holloway has wished him the best in his future at Manchester United where he is on a five and a half year contract, he left Crystal Palace for approximately £15million.

The goals scored for Palace were by Gabbidon 9′, Gayle 79′ (pen), and O’Keefe 90′ with a curled shot. whereas Fletcher got one back for Sunderland with a header in the 64th minute.

Manger Holloway was pleased with his sides efforts and spoke of the passing of the ball as nice to watch and also spoke of the performance by the lads as commanding.

The latest from Crystal Palace is they have signed Jimmy Kebe from Reading on a 3 year deal for an undisclosed sum.

2-1 Chelsea’s superstar Frank Lampard fires two against Aston Villa & breaks record!

leave a comment »

Chelsea’s top goal scorer of all time FROM TODAY! Frank Lampard scored twice against Aston Villa!

Today was one of the finest moments for Super Frankie Lampard! He thanked the fans and he said of the moment “I did get a bit emotional” and he dedicated his haul of 203 goals (a record) to his mum.

The previous record was posted between 1959-1970 by Sir Bobby Tambling with a total of a spectacular 202 goals! Rafael Benitez Chelsea’s interim manager said “He’s a great player who has been working hard and to achieve what he has is amazing. He is a great professional. I’m really pleased for him and really pleased for the team because he scored two goals and won the game” and did not speculate on whether Mourinho will be back, or on a contract offer for Lampard.

Chelsea are now in the Champions League next season after what has been described as a dramatic match with Aston Villa, which saw a sending off for each team, Lampard break Sir Tambling’s record with two goals and Chelsea make it to the Premier League top three spot, which means Champions League football for the Blues.

Last year in December, Chelsea had beat Aston Villa 8-0, this match-up was different, when Aston Villa put themselves in the lead with a goal in 14 minutes by Benteke, although Lampard came to rescue the match with a stunning curled shot into the goal and a late strike from close range.

The team have done well today, and will have to keep up their momentum with the likes of back in form Torres his team-mates Ba, Lampard and Mata will surely be wanting to show they can end on a good season on a good high note of a trophy.

Eden Hazard and John Terry have come off from the match with injuries and it is too soon to know whether they will be included in the Europa League Final against Benfica in Amsterdam (15th May Wednesday).

Chelsea as a team made a record for most goals scored in the season with 143 goals with the match against Aston Villa.

In other news Aston Villa’s captain Stiliyan Petrov has retired due to his battle with Leukemia, also, Sir Alex Ferguson has retired and David Moyes is to be in the managerial position at the end of the season.

Chris Gayle breezes to a 100 in 30 balls!

Bangalore, April 23, M. Chinnaswamy stadium, it was a Tuesday and Chris Gayle put on a display of fireworks with 6’s and 4’s throughout the evening. Chris Gayle is the star opening batsmen for Royal Challengers Bangalore and a match doesn’t seem to go past without Chris Gayle hitting a six! It’s a rarity to see him not hit a six!

The match against Pune Warriors saw Chris Gayle quick fire his way to a century in 30 balls! He also received the accolade for highest score of 175 in 66 balls.

His innings, was one that saw him from the very beginning to the very end not out (20. overs), and the middle of his innings saw 17 sixes! and 13 fours!

Here’s his wagon wheel:

Chris Gayle century innings

The Royal Challengers Bangalore reached 263 for 5, thanks to the one man show, and the ‘team’ received the fastest Indian Premier League hundred too.

The experienced and collected batting showed a huge range of Gayle’s repertoire of shots, my favourite shot was his six to reach his hundred and he hit the roof with his powerful shot! In celebration and to thank the crowd, Gayle took off his helmet and then with a smile hugged his partner Dilshan and then went down on his knees with a wider smile and raised his bat to the crowd! Chris Gayle is a remarkable showman and 81% of people in a vote believed that Gayle would make his hundred, well he sure as well did!

The excellent West Indian cricketer is now number one in the most runs scored in the IPL 2013 with 566 runs followed by M Hussey who is on 504, and then comes RG Sharma an Indian who is number three with 414runs.

The match was interrupted at one point, by a beautiful feat of mother nature, a torrential down pour, and then resumed again after 30 minutes for Chris Gayle to demonstrate the beauty of Cricket in 30 balls.

The previous record for fastest IPL hundred was made by India’s Yusuf Pathan’s who made a century in 37 balls in 2010.

Gayle also set the latest IPL record for the fastest 150 in 53 balls and was to thank for beating the previous 246-run record of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against Rajasthan Royals in 2010, Virat Kohli the Royal Challenger Bangalore captain must have felt relieved to be on the side that was batting with Gayle as they watched him dispatch every bowl that was pitched in to him from seven different bowlers. The Pune Warriors tried to slow Gayle down at one point with the introduction of spinners, this however did not stop the sixes or fours or Gayle from breaking the records mentioned above.

Pune Warriors captain Aaron Finch had won the toss and elected to bowl, possibly they didn’t know that Chris Gayle was in such fine form. The fielders were faced by the pace of every shot coming from Gayle’s bat and he hits many shots, if not all of them, very hard and fast.

In conclusion: Chris Gayle has yet again shown why he is such an asset to the world of Cricket:
